DELL, MINDEN, DIES IN HOSPITAL Was Justice of Peace and Member of Town Board Fort Plain, March 19- Fred E. Dell, 62?, one of the best known residents of the Minden section of this town, died at the LIttle Falls Hospital, Tuesday night, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was a justice of the peace and a member of the Town Board of the town of Minden, member of Universalist Church and Mohawk Valley Lodge 65?, Knights of Pythias. In politics, he was a Republican. He had been a resident of this town for many years and was a hay buyer. Mr. Dell was of a genial nature and easily made friends. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Anna Snell; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Alter, of Nelliston, and Mrs. Elton Andrews, of Minden; one brother, William Dell, of this town. The remains were taken to the Swartz undertaking rooms here and later removed to his home in Minden, where the funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2, Rev. Rufus H. Dix, pastor of the Universalist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. ******************** Utica Observer-Dispatch, 13 Mar 1931 Fred E. Dell Fort Plain - Fred E. Dell, 62?, lifelong resident of the Town of Minden, died in the Little Falls City Hospital last night at 8:15 after being confined there 13? days. He was a son of the late John and Rosa Moyer Dell and was born in the Town of Danube, Jan 21 (or 24?), 1861?. He was a member of the twon board, the Universalist Church, Mohawk Valley Lodge, No. 64?, K. of P., and was a justice of the peace. Surviving are his widow, formerly Anna M. Snell; one brother, William Dell, of Little Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Alter of Nelliston and Mrs. Elton Andrews of Minden; also several nieces and nephews. [illegible] Plain last night by Undertaker A. G. Swarts & Sons and this afternoon was taken to his home at Minden, where the funeral will be Friday afternoon at 2, the Rev. Rufus Dix, pastor of the Universalist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Minden. ******************** Utica Daily Press, 30 Sep 1932 Mrs. Alter, 68, Nelliston, Dies Fort Plain, Sept. 29? - Mrs. Katherine Alter, 68, died Wednesday at her home in Nelliston, after an illness of several months. She was born in Germany in 1864 and came to this country with her parents when four years of age. She was married August 8?, 1882?, to Jacob Alter, who died a number of years ago. Mrs. Alter is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harvey J. Dygert, Freys Bush; one son, David Alter, Nelliston; two grandsons Gordon J. and James A. Dygert, Freys Bush; sister, Mrs. Elton Andrews, Minden; one brother, William Dell, Minden, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from her home and 2:30 p.m. from the Catherine Nellis Memorial Chapel, Rev. R. B. Cook, pastor of the Fort Plain Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Plain cemetery. ******************** Utica Observer-Dispatch, 31 May 1946 WILLIAM DELL Fort Plain - William Dell, 71, died May 26 in a Utica hospital. He was born in St. Johnsville May 26, 1875, son of John and Rosina Moyer Dell. The survivors are nephew, James Dell, Canajoharie; a niece, Mrs. Jennie Veeder, Fonda, and several cousins. The body was brought to the Grey Funeral Home, Fort Plain. Services will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon, with the Rev. H. H. Mahl of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Fords Bush. ******************* Utica Observer-Dispatch, 24 Sept., 1984 Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews Fort Plain - Mrs. Elizabeth Dell Andrews, 62, wife of Elton Andrews, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 1934, at her home in Ford's Bush of complications and heart trouble. She was born Mar. 3, 1872, in the Town of Minden, daughter of John and Rose Moyer Dell and had been a resident of this section practically all of her life. She was a member of the Ford's Bush Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband; one son, Howard, Canajoharie; five daughters, Mrs. Lena Garlock, Fort Plain; Mrs. James Bracebridge, Canajoharie; Mrs. Willard White, Ames; Miss Isabelle Andrews and Mrs. Roy Sherman, Canajoharie; four grandchildren; one brother, William Dell, Fort Plain. ******************* Utica Herald Dispatch, 7 Jun 1914 ST. JOHNSVILLE DIED FROM LOCKJAW George Dell, who Fell From Milk Wagon St. Johnsville, July 7, - George Dell, aged 61 years, died at his home at Minden Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, June 27, as Mr. Dell was returning to his home on the milk wagon from St. Johnsville, he fell from the wagon and received a deep scalp wound. Later tetanus developed which was the cause of his death. He is survived by his widow and six children, Mrs. Harry Wettrean of Hallsville, Mary, Katie and Jennie and James and Fred Dell, all of whom reside in Minden; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred [sic] Andrews of Danube, Mrs. Katherine Allter of Nelliston and two brothers, Fred and William Dell of Minden. The funeral will be held at his late home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. and in the Lutheran Church at Fordsbush at 12 m. The Rev. Dr. B. E. Fake of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of St. Johnsville will officiate. The interment will be made in the Fordsbush Cemetery. ******************* Utica Observer Dispatch, 1932 Mrs. Rose D. Wick Fort Plain - Mrs. Rose Dell Wick, 63?, wife of Edgar Wick, died Friday at 5:45? p.m. at her home in Keeslers Corners section of the Town of Minden, after a lingering illness. She was born in germany, Dec. 6, 1862, and had lived in this country about 60 years. Her first husband was Wolf Dell. Surviving are her husband, Mr. Wick; one son; Charles, of Fort Plain, and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Emory Oster of Sprout Brook and Mrs. Charles Austin of Freys Bush. The funeral will be tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., advanced time, at the home, the Rev. E. R. Krutzengs, pastor of the First Reformed Church of Fort Plain, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery [illegible]. ******************** Utica Daily Observer, 11 Dec 1875 KILLED! John Dell Mangled by a Coal Car at St. Johnsville! [Special Dispatch to the Utica Observer.] St. Johnsville, Dec. 11- 11:15 A.M. - Early this forenoon, John Dell, a German in the employment of the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad Company at this place was instantly killed. It seems that Dell was endeavoring to get out of a coal pocket in which he had been at work, and slid down to the track just in time to be run over by a coal car which was running by. He leaves a wife and several small children. ******************** Some further notes on the Dell family (I also have this posted on the Fulton County site as they are connected with an Andrews family from Oppenheim). 1. John Dell and his family came from Bavaria arriving from Hamburg in NY on 5 June 1867 on the steamer Borussia. They were berthed in a 2nd class cabin, between decks. Listing was: Joh. Doll (or Dell?), 39, farmer They are found in 1870 in St. Johnsville, Montgomery, NY where John and his son, Wolf, were laborers on the railroad. In 1880 Rosina is a widow and living in Danube, Herkimer, NY with her 3 youngest children. Rosina's maiden name is Moyer, according to her son, Fred's, obituary. John and Rosina had the following children: 2.1. Wolf Dell, b. about 1851 in Germany ******************** Utica Daily Press, around 26 Jul 1898 under Fort Plain William Dell of this village, the well-known long distance cyclist, finished second in the mile professional race at Amsterdam to-day and the winner was Hayflinger, the flyer of the valley. Mayer of Fort Plain, was entered, but is at the front with the Forty-sixth Separate Company. A. A. Miller of this village, was one of the officials of the meet. |
