Subject: Indian massacres 1774-1779: I have an ancestor, surname is either JERKIN or YERKIN according to my grandmother's papers. This family was in an Indian massacre somewhere on the NY frontier. The man was scalped and survived. Two children were burned at the stake. I am trying to find some documentation on this. I find most historical writings only deal with the leaders of communities as is the case with William W. Campbell. I would appreciate it if anyone who has done research in this area could give me some references. Has the state historical society ever published a casualty list from this time period. All the bigshots are named in Campbells work "The Annals of Tryon
County". Thanks.

Just tonight I had to reinstall my browser with the result that an e-mail letter I had failed to copy was lost. It was from a gentleman who wrote to ask if I had any information I could share with him about the PUTMAN family. I think that his name was William Putman or Putnam. Or it could even have been something altogether different. By any chance have you heard from someone within the past month or two who expressed an interest in that family. If so, could you pass on his e-mail address or, if you prefer, send him my address and ask him to write me again. I am quite chagrined to ask this and certainly would understand if you'd rather not be bothered. Thanks for anything you might come up with. Regards, FK Millar (Note: if this ever happens to you (been there myself) please do not hesitate to post in our queries that you've lost an address. Please specify the surname you were working on.)

George MICKLE b. abt 1800 in Cobleskill, Scoharie, NY m. Elizabeth COLE. 1850 census puts them in Glen, Montgomery, NY with children:
1860-1870 census shows them in Sterling, Whiteside County, ILL. I believe that Andrew Mickle, Revolutionary War soldier was the father of George, and another son and daughter. I believe that Elizabeth Cole is the daughter of Jeremiah Cole. From Andrew Mickle's pension application in 1835, he stated he lived in Oppenheim, that he was born in Elsaz (Alsace?), German Empire, French Government. I am looking for more proof of the relationship. I also have the descendants to the present time. Cyndie Dennis Greer Website
