Canajoharie Falls Cemetery Lot Owners Index, 1897-1938
This reading of the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery was kindly contributed by Jeanette Shiel back in 2000. No location/address, date or name of reader was noted, and we don't know if this is a full reading of the cemetery. Question marks in parentheses indicate strike-overs of numbers from the old manual typewriter. The list was originally formatted so that each page was in two long columns. Most persons of like surname were buried with each other. However, with this particular layout on this particularly long list, burial order wasn't clear enough to be useful in determining relationships of persons of variant surnames and could have caused misassociations and genealogical goose-chases. The decision was made to create a newly-formatted alphabetized version from the original typescript, with some notes regarding burial proximity.

" I have an index to Brown Cemetery, which is now a part of the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. I do not know when this index was compiled, so there are probably more families there than what is on this list. I also included the names & dates of my Dingman family - grandparents, uncles, cousins, a grand aunt, that are buried there. I walked through this cemetery on three different times, visiting my family graves. The cemetery seems to be taken care of, lawn is green and kept mowed. The photo of the gate entrance to the Brown Cemetery, now a part of Canajoharie Falls Cemetery, and called by that name, was taken by Herb Bohler. " Rosemary Nadal

Zachariah C. Neahr
Medal of Honor
Pvt Co K 142 Inf
Civil War
Dec 9 1830 Jul 21 1903
Here is the gravesite of Zachariah C. NEAHR (9 Dec 1830 - 21 Jul 1903) in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. Z. C., as
he liked to be called, lived his entire life in Canajoharie. He was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor on September 11, 1890, for action at Ft.
Fisher, NC, on 16 Jan 1865, when he was a Private in Company K, 142nd NY Infantry during the Civil War. Where is Z. C.'s Congressional
Medal of Honor today?
Z. C. was the son of Zachariah NEAHR, Jr., and Elizabeth [--?--]. After Z. C.'s father died, his mother Elizabeth married
Henry KRING of Palatine Bridge, NY, on 18 Feb 1845. In 1852 Z. C.'s full sister, Elizabeth NEAHR, went on to marry her stepbrother,
Orville H. KRING. Thus, Z. C. was my step-great-granduncle from two directions.
While many of the graves in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery are identified on the web page, Z. C.'s grave does not appear in the listing.
I don't know whether he is buried with the other Neahrs in Section A or not.
