CANAJOHARIE FALLS CEMETERY
CIVIL WAR VETERANS TOMBSTONES
CANAJOHARIE MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.Y.
Contributed by Rosemary Nadal
Here are three tombstone photos of Civil War Veterans that I took at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery; I should have taken photos of all the veterans so I could have shared them. Vrooman Dingman (spelled Vroman on grave marker) was my 2nd Great Grand Uncle. The other picture is of John Pettit. I took his picture because my great grandmother's sister married a John Pettit. I need to do research on the family, as I'm not sure if he is the John Pettit she married. I also included a picture of Daniel Lambert; there was a Daniel Lambert living with my great great grandparents at one time. Rosemary Nadal

The 1890 Special Veteran's Schedule has John Pettit, a private in Company I, 115th N.Y. Vols., enlisted August 26, 1862, and mustered out September 26, 1864. There's a note next to his name that looks like it says "dead"! The 1860 Canajoharie census has a John H. Pettit b. ca. 1838. There was a John Pettit listed in Town of Root and 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses, in all censuses b. ca. 1822.
