The original reading below and the story of his discovery and family search was contributed by Rick Sanders. This may be the first reading of a forgotten cemetery tucked away on an old homestead. Knowledge of an earlier reading, persons below, or leads to Rick's 4th great-grandfather would be most appreciated.

"About 5 years ago I was in Montgomery Co. trying to track down my ancestors. My 4th great-grandfather was named Henry Sanders and for a number of years I thought that he was the Henry Sanders of Minden who fought in General Herkimer's Regiment at Oriskany. I had a nice visit, met a lot of wonderful folks, but did not find any information linking Henry Sanders to my 3rd great-grandfather David. I did however record some cemetery information that you may find useful or at the least a Sanders might find useful.
At the corner of Sanders and River Roads in (Ft Plain?) Minden, there is located an old brick house that overlooks the NY Thruway (90) and the river. There is a cemetery there that contains some old graves that I uncovered from beneath the thick berry bushes. They are listed below. It is a Sanders cemetery and the folks buried there are descendents of the Henry Sanders that fought with General Herkimer. Henry is mentioned in the history of the Battle of Oriskany.
The cemetery inscriptions below are listed from the back to the front of the cemetery. The cemetery is located near the corner of Sanders and River Roads in I believe Ft. Plain NY, Montgomery County. "
