Letter to Nicholas SmithAug 23, 1853Canajoharie NYContributed by Brian Smith 7 Oct 2007 Dear fellow researchers, My name is Brian Smith and I have come across a letter written to my 4GGrandfather which you may find of interest. I have plans to come to Fonda, NY the week of October 15 to further research this ancestor and will have the original letter with me. I'd enjoy sharing my research with you and others. Sincerely, Brian. Update 18 Oct 2007 I just returned from Fonda and had a very rewarding trip. I found the 1853 deed transfer recorded at the County Clerks office for property in Canajoharie owned by Catharine (Frickey), wife of Nicholas Smith. Catharine's sister Maria was married to Nicholas Loucks, hence the salutation "Dear Brother". The property was purchased by Alphonso Wetmore. I also got a copy of the last will and testament of John Frickey their father which was written in 1820 and executed in 1826, confirming that these were two of his three daughters. 1853 Canajoharie August 23rd Your and your wifes relatives are all well but it has been more than an ordinarily unhealthy this present season. Yours Truly, P.S. Write to us at Ephrata post office when you receive this. N.L. |
