I understand that Delevan BATES entered the Civil War from Herkimer County. I am researching him for a project here in Hamilton County, called the Hamilton County Heritage Project. I would appreciate information on his early childhood or his Civil War years. I am concentrating more on the Civil War years and the following years, when he homesteaded in Auora in Hamilton County and was a big force in establishing Aurora. Thanks for an excellent site. This is my second visit as a guest. I am searching the SHOEMAKER family. In particular, I am searching for the ancestors of a Thomas Shoemaker, born in Germany ca1680-1690. He married Anna Dorothea KORSING. Their son, Rudolph married Gertrude HERKIMER. I believe Thomas had two brothers, a Jacob Shoemaker and a Daniel Shoemaker. Does anyone have any information on the ancestors of either Thomas, Jacob, or Daniel Shoemaker. Thanks. Bruce Betteridge. Hello to all from yer Lake Superior. Thank you for your site. Most excellent. I am researching Isaac PRESTON, 1777-1866, from Market Hill, County Armagh, Ireland. He and his wife, Sarah PORTER, arrived in the US c. 1806, and settled in the Amsterdam (Mohawk) area. He was a stonemason, but as a British sympathizer during the War of 1812, he was imprisoned. Whether in a local jail or a state prison, I don't know. During his 2 year sentence, he helped to build the prison walls at Ossining on the Hudson. By 1818, the whole family had left for Ontario. Two sons were born in New York, Alexander born in Feb. 1810, and Porter, Sept. 1813, both in Amsterdam. We have not been able to locate records of Isaac's trial and imprisonment from inquiries in Albany and Washington, DC. Any help at all for info on Isaac and his Amsterdam days would be appreciated. Yours truly, Cliff Huber ggg-gson. Cliff Huber, R R 1 Kakabeka Falls, ONT Canada, P0T 1W0 Email:chuber@tbaytel.net or chuber@alumni.lakeheadu.ca
