I'm looking for any descendants of JAKEWAY/ JACQUES/ JAQUAYS/ JAQUES:
James JAKEWAY, b. July 22, 1819 in NY (?), d. Nov 26, 1870 in Kent Co., MI. Married Catherine WESSELS, daughter of Peter & Elizabeth (LENTZ) Wessels, abt 1840. James & Catherine's children:
Horace Jakeway's (b. abt 1849) grandson changed his name to "Kenneth Jacques". One of his children had his name legally changed back to "Jakeway". Perhaps "Jacques" was the original spelling of the surname. In the 1850 Herkimer Co, NY census, James & Catherine's last name is spelled "Jaquays". I am looking for any descendants or ancestors of James Jakeway. If you have any connections to any of the above, please email me at: jjakeway@iserv.net Jodi Jakeway, Belding, MI 48809
Note: As coordinator and "keep of the queries" at times I must shorten queries so that there will be room for all on these boards. The above query has been edited due to length, events occuring outside of the geographic scope of this GenWeb site, and references to individuals very close to contemporary time. Jodi has done thorough research and has much to share.

I am looking for information on my great grandfather - Glenn Howard PUTNAM, born January 31, 1852. I just received a copy of his death certificate and had a difficult time reading his birthplace. After a great deal of technical help, it looks like it is "Village of Glenn," New York. His parents are listed as Glen Putnam (born in Amsterdam, New York - my next query) and Letitia Paulison (born in Hackensack, New Jersey). If he was indeed born in the Town of Glen, Montgomery County, I would love to hear from anyone researching the same family. I noticed on your fantastic new web site for Glen, the name Putman, and wonder if this is a variation in the spelling of the name. Please contact me: Sylvia Harper Nelson, Bainbridge Island, WA; Email: shn1@ix.netcom.com Thank you.

WILLIAMS / BRADLEY / GALE: Looking for parents & vitals of siblings: Sherman & Esther WILLIAMS.
Sherman Williams was "of Russia, NY" when he married 18 Oct 1831 at
Farmington, Hartford co., CT by Rev. Joseph Ayer, Jr., to Sally BRADLEY

(RATHBUN) Bradley of New London. Unknown why they m. in Farmington. [CT Barbour Collection of VRs] Sally died 12 Mar 1888 at Galesburg, IL.
Sherman's b. date/place is unknown. He was part of the colony that established Galesburg, IL and Knox College abt 1838. He was an abolitionist and an educator, said to have 1st settled in Missouri, establishing a Sabbath school for colored children. He was mobbed, his property burned and life threatened so he was forced to flee the state.
He was co-executor for the will of a Martha Williams in 1849 at Galesburg, IL. The will of Sally (Bradley) Williams has no executor listed in the probate index, perhaps Sherman had predeceased her? [most info from: Cooley, "Rathbone Geneology",1898]
Esther WILLIAMS, sister of Sherman, b date/place unknown, m (1) ___ COON, details unknown. (a Coon was one of the early settlers at Russia, NY) She m (2) at Galesburg, IL 14 Sep 1840 to Prof. George Washington GALE, the founder of the Oneida Institute, and later Knox College. His 1st wife was Harriet SELDEN (had 9 children). George may have had a 3rd wife, _______ MERRIAM. George & Esther had at least 1 son, Henry Williams Gale b & d 1842 Esther is also supposed to have d abt 1842, prob at Galesburg, IL.
The name "Henry" is interesting as 2 of Sherman & Sally Williams' children named sons Henry ... or ... Henry. "Henry" doesn't seem to come from the Gale or Bradley line. Also, aware of the Henry Williams, farmer in the 1869 Russia, NY directory, and a Henry Williams m in Rome, NY, but relationship to Esther & Sherman is unknown. Any help appreciated... especially source names if info is too lengthy to send via email.
