Fort Plain, Montgomery Co.

Is pleasantly situated upon the south shore of the Mohawk River; is a station upon the N. Y. C. & H. R. R. R., 58 miles from Albany and 90 from Syracuse, and the Erie Canal flows through the centre of its business portion. It was incorporated April 5, 1832, has several good stores, 4 churches, viz, M. E., Ref. Presbyterian, Universalist and Lutheran, public schools and a very fine academy, a cemetery of 10 acres located on high ground, and a population of about 2,000. During the summer months a stage runs between here and Cooperstown.
