Been searching my husband's g-grandfather, Nicholas N. NICHOLS for 21 years. Have I found him in Herkimer Co? The 1830 Census has NICHOLDS, Nicholds N. in Stark and KNAUGHT, Jacob in Stark. Nicholas N. Nichols had a son Jacob and he always used the middle initial N. Nicholas also had a son Henry whose mother is recorded as Ann KNAW(KNAUGHT?).

Nicholas N. Nichols is found in 1845 in Chautauqua Co. with wife Susan and his children. For the first time in 21 years I think I might have the right family and hope my query on your page will bring some positive results. I have a great deal of info to share from 1845 to today. Your page is super! Check the Hidalgo Co, TX page. I do the research. Louise Shultz.

I am looking for descendants, siblings and the names of Smith BURTCH's parent's, and his wife, Mary ELIGH. They were listed in the 1810 census for Montgomery County, and in the 1820 census of Rossee, St. Lawrence County. In the late 1700s Dutchess County was full of Burtch's. Mary Eligh was born somewhere in the Mohawk Valley Region of New York State.

Smith's children that I have listed were: Polly, died young; Betsy, died young; Horace, I know nothing about; Jacob, I know nothing about; Lewis, b. 1807 d. 1872; Charles, b. 1810 d. 1871; Alfred b.1820 d.1870; and William b.1823 d.1872.

I am also trying to get some information on my great-grandfather, Elijah Burtch. He was born somewhere in the U.S., came to Canada and was married on Dec. 10, 1861. He went to fight in the Civil War for the States. He died in the States and is buried there. I would like to know how I can get his service records, and find out how he died and where he is buried. Elijah was the son of Lewis Burtch and Rachel (Unknown), and the grandson of Smith Burtch. If there are any relatives out there of these Burtch's, I would really like to hear from you. Thanks. Jewel (Burtch) Irwin.

My mother Helen PURPLE was born 20 Dec 1904 in Columbia Center, Herkimer County, NY. Her father, Wesley PURPLE, was born in 1852 and died in 1936. At least those are the dates on his grave marker in the Schuyler Lake Cemetery in Schuyler Lake, Exeter Township, Otsego County, NY. Gramps first wife, Cora L. ???, died in 1900 and is buried with Wesley. My mother was the second of four children of his second marriage to Nellie HAGGERTY (no dates) . Nellie's father was LaMott HAGGERTY (no dates) and her mother was Maria KEELER (no dates). I have been told that Lavel PURPLE, my g-grandfather, was a sailor who died at sea leaving his wife Evalina, a widow who later remarried. Does someone have information on any Purples living in NY State? Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Nicholas N. NICHOLS/(Nicholds N. NICHOLDS?) b. 1794 m. Ann KNAW/(KNAUGHT?) and Susan.

Children of Nicholas: Jacob, Betsey Ann, Henry, Mary, Sloma/Saloma, Harriet, Nicholas, Ester/Altheare, Thomas, Charles, and Gilbert.

Is the Nicholds N. Nicholds in the 1830 census of Stark, Herkimer Co., the father of the listed children and husband of Ann? Who is Susan and which children belong to which wife? The 1830 census has a Jacob NAUGHT on the same page as Nicholds N. Nicholds in Stark. Note that the first son is Jacob. Also Nicholas N. Nichols in all found records since 1845 uses the "N." The family is found in Chautauqua Co. in 1845 and 1850. They moved to Carroll Co. IL in 1853. More than willing to share.

Seeking information on the PRIME/PRUYN/PRUIN families of Montgomery County. My last identifiable ancestors there are David Pruin (also spelled PRUYNE) who married a Eunice FRENCH and had my gggfather David P. PRUIN/PREME/PRIME.

David P. was in turn married thrice:

The family name was apparently Anglicized over the years. Baptismal and marriage records from the Dutch Reformed Church at Fonda show David P. Prime slowly changing the spelling of his name from the original Pruyn(e) to Pruin/Preme and finally to Prime. He and Virtue moved to the Allegany/Cattaraugus County area circa 1841, when Virtue died. He married Miss Vedder the following year and my g-grandfather, Israel Prime, who later used the name James Francis Prime, was born in 1843. Would greatly appreciate any information on how David Pruyn(e) and Eunice French tie into the historic Pruyn families of Montgomery and Albany counties.

Looking for others researching the following CASLER, DINGMAN, DAMON or BENNETT families:

Jared CASLER (wife unknown) a native of New York and of German descent was a soldier in the Revolution. He was the father of five children and reportedly lived to be ninety years old. One of his children Henry CASLER was a blacksmith by trade and died about 1842 in Turin, Lewis Co., NY. Henry married Mary Dingman daughter of Jared DINGMAN (Jared Dingman was badly wounded in Revolution, became totally blind and lived for forty years without his sight). Henry and Mary had a family of seven children; Edgar S., Daujel D., Angeline and Sarah (other names unknown). The eldest child Edgar S. CASLER was born in Watertown, NY, Jan 15, 1824. Edgar's youth was spent in Jefferson Co., NY. He apprenticed in wagon making and moved west in 1854 to settle in Janesville, Rock Co., Wis. In 1847, while still in NY, Edgar CASLER married Zenana DAMON, daughter of Noah and Betsy DAMON, they had two children, Ellen and Matilda. Zenana died in 1850 and in 1851 Edgar married Theodosia BENNETT, daughter of Larry and Mary BENNETT. Eight children were born of this union: Clara, Lucy, Alma, Jennie, Nellie, Ida, Henry and Ernest. If you have any info on any of the family lines mentioned above please e-mail me at grotejm@aol or grotejm@msn. I'm more then willing to share what information I have.
