David Van RENNSELAER was in Herkimer Co. at time of 1820 census. Any records regarding him or his wife Nancy ROE Van Rennselaer would be much appreciated. They were in PA from 182? through 1835. If there are any descendants of this couple please respond. I have much information to share, but need proof of parentage. Patte Bettis; Shreveport

Researching Solomon Joel RICE born 20 Sept 1805 in MA married 28 Oct 1833 in Montgomery Co. NY Diana MAHONEY ALL. They moved to Tioga Co. PA . The following are their children, most born in NY. Solomon Nathaniel; Peter Henry; Hannah Lucretia; Lydia Matilda; Henry Tyrus; George Washington; Miles David; Rosetta Bell; Claria Diana; John Otis; Sylvester Webb; Elsie Eliza; Prudence Matia; and Netta Adel. Lonnie Richardson Tues Dec 24 1996
I have one presumed ancestor in Herkimer Co., a Joseph RICHARDSON. I have a land record dated in 1793 showing him at German Flats and selling land in Lebanon, Ct. I believe this Joseph to be the Joseph Richardson that lived and raised a family in Lebanon, CT. His first wife was Elizabeth WISE whom he married 23 Nov. 1749. Children:

Abigail married John TORREY and removed to Genesee Co., NY. The name Roswell I believe to be a misprint and should be ROSSEL and he removed to Leister, Ontario, Co. (now Livingston Co.) NY. Any information on any of these people would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: Lonnie's page is at http://www.nvsn.com/lrichard. If you're thinking of making your own page of family information, this an excellent example of clear presentation and thorough research techniques.

Looking for parents, siblings, any relatives of Peter RINEHARD or his wife Perlina BRICE. She was married first to Ebenitus COLLIER and had three young children when he was killed by robbers or Indians. She placed two of the children (Marian and John Francis) for adoption or otherwise gave them up, but kept the infant Ebenitus Jr. She is thought to have married Peter about 1819 or 1820 . They were both said to have been born in Herkimer Co., I think about 1794. Five of their 7 children were born in Madison Co (perhaps Nelson). In 1833 they went to Chautauqua Co. Both Peter and Perlina's fathers were supposed to have served in the Rev. War, but I don't know their names or where they were from. This Rinehard family came to NY in about 1710 or 1711 and settled in the Mohawk Valley. Please e-mail me with any possibilities.

Looking for the family of Dorothy ROBINS, b.?; died l844, married Daniel ROGERS. They had 6 children: Mathilda, Surena, Martha, Bill, George, & John D. After Dorothy died Daniel moved four of his children to Franklinton (Schoharie Co) to be near his brother William Rogers. Believe Bill or some of his descendants may have settled near Dolgeville. George never married. Any info will be appreciated.

Have been looking in Oneida for my Charles ROBINSON, b. 1798, but since Oneida was formed from Herkimer in 1798, perhaps Herkimer will be a more fruitful place. Charles and wife Polly (also b. 1797, Oneida) and children born there moved to Cooperstown between 1855-8 (perhaps the children moved first, Charles and Polly later). I know my great-grandfather Francis was born Sauquoit, Paris Township in 1827, so probably the others were born there also. I think there must be a connection between this family and Nathan Robinson who settled with others in the vicinity of Sauquoit in 1791. TIA!

I am searching for the parents of Desire ROCKWELL, my gg-grandmother. She was born in 1804 , d. in 1843 and is buried at Old Stone Fort in Schoharie County. She married in 1822 Levi D. PARSLOW, his first wife in Charlestown, Montgomery Cty and they lived in Charlestown. The only Rockwells I can find are Silas under Montgomery Co in 1790 census and Elias and James under Charlestown in 1830 census. Her husband Levi remarried and died in Schoharie Cty. Her daughter Almira Parslow married Peter RIVENBURGH, both born in 1835 and moved to Greenville, NY. Peter and Almira are buried in Palenville, NY. Peter came from Charlestown also, but I cannot find his parents either. I am searching for Peter's parents in Montgomery Co - the spelling could have been RIFFENBURG/ RIVENBERGH/ etc. Al Albright

Does anyone have information about Ur ROOT who was born in 1766 in Southington, CT? From his first marriage he had a son, Lyman Root. He married a second wife, Annie WOOD and they lived at Russia, Herkimer Co. He died 10 Oct 1826.

I have been looking for the parents of my gg-grandfather, Samuel Root and thought Ur might be his father. Samuel was born abt. 1804 in Herkimer Co. and married Louisa HARVEY there in 1836. They had children, Harriet, Irving, Howard, Adelphine, Mary and Orrin, all born in Herkimer Co. I have collected quite a bit of ROOT information in my search and will be glad to share anything that I have.

I seek information, such as a marriage or land record of my gg-grandparents, Francis and Permelia (SPAULDING) ROOT. They, accompanied by their two children, James Root and my g-grandmother Harriet Root, and a family friend, Powell SHELL, moved from Herkimer Co. to the Brooklyn, WI (Green Co.) frontier in 1847. Both Shell and the Root family received a patent deed from the federal government for forty acres. They dug a well and erected their cabins near the section line separating their two pieces of land. Francis died one year later. Permelia subsequently married John McCLARRINON and had seven more children with him. She died in 1871.

I believe that my g-grandmother Harriet Root was born in Herkimer Co., sometime before 10 October in the year 1842 (based on 1850 federal census information) and that her brother, James Root, was born in Herkimer Co. on 27 April 1841 (date found in a book entitled "History of Green County", published in 1884). Gg-grandmother Permelia's maiden surname was SPAULDING. I wonder if that family also lived in Herkimer County. While I have plenty of information on the Roots from 1847 on, I have no information on their time in Herkimer Co. (except that stated in this query). Any information you provide will be extremely appreciated. Thank you in advance. Hal Mosher

My ancestor with Herkimer connections is Joseph BONSON ROUND(S) from Winfield [1837-1892].

Duane Alan Runyon Sun 25 May 1997
RUNYON: Looking for Guy Taylor Runyon, a clockmaker in Mohawk, Herkimer Co around 1910. Family lore says he might have been a French-Canadian immigrant. Guy's son Richard married Wanda VANDERVOORT. The Vandervoorts were thought to be from either Fly Creek in Otsego Co. or Watervliet in Albany Co. and to have some connection to Gen. George GALLUP. I am just starting this research and would greatly appreciate any info or leads to good local resources.

I am looking for information about William RUSSELL, born in Herkimer NY, 12 Mar 1804. His wife's name was Esther, born in NY, in 1803. His father, uncle, or brother's name may have been Ebenezer or Isaac. They moved to PA, about 1830 to 1840.

Marilynn Russell Sat Jan 4 1997
RUSSELL: According to the entries in the Russell Family Bible (1857) which was given to us by a Russell decendant about ten years ago, only William was born in Johnstown, NY. Herein lies the problem - Johnstown was originally in Montgomery County. This county was later divided into several other counties. Johnstown was then in St. Lawrence Co.

p>The following name also appears in the family bible: Elizabeth (Elisabeth) WOLVIN, b. 11/6/1810 in the town of Berne (Albany County) NY. The following marriage is conjecture: William Russell may have married Elizabeth Wolvin.
  • Their child William was b.1832 in NY.

I know all about the descendants of George R. Russell, but nothing about ancestors or siblings. The family maintains that their heritage includes Native American. Is it possible that William may have married a Native American woman? Substantiating that certainly would be interesting. This is all the information I have. Thank you, again! Marilynn Russell, 3104 Cherokee Drive, Sheboygan, WI 53083.
