PRIVATE WILBUR HAROLD SHAFT
BATTERY D, 12th REGIMENT, F.A.R.D.

This is my grandfather, Wilbur Harold Shaft, born 3/3/1888 in Wells Co., IN, son of George Putnam Shaft and Della Ellen Reed. George Putnam Shaft was the son of Jacob V. Shaft and Margaret Jane Putnam of Herkimer, Montgomery and Madison Counties.

As for Grandpa's service, he didn't see any action and was only in the Army a few months. He enlisted (was drafted - I have the original document) in Decatur, Adams County, IN on 6/15/1918. He was honorably discharged on January 21, 1919 at Camp Zachary Taylor in Kentucky. He served as a Private in Battery D, 12th Regiment, F.A.R.D.
