The 1870 census shows them living in Root, NY with two sons - Peter Jay and Ulyssus Grant. The 1870 census shows John, Grant, and daughter Emma Jean, living in Root, NY. John was widowed. In 1900, John was living with Allen Horace and family, working as a farm laborer - in Root, NY. Emma Jean married William Pitcher of Sprakers in 1890. John passed away in 1906 in Sprakers, NY. FINKELL | My great great grandparents were Joseph Jeremiah Finkell and Mary Elizabeth Colehamer Finkell. They moved to the Town of Root in the 1860s from the Town of Brunswick in Rensselaer County. They are buried in the Argusville Lutheran Cemetery. It is their farm that is pictured on your website! Their son, Daniel Henry Finkell was my great grandfather. He married Margaret Jane File from Brunswick. They had a farm in the Town of Root. They later lived in Argusville, and Daniel owned a lumber and grist mill there. Their son, Arthur Prescott Finkell was my grandfather, and he lived in Argusville until he moved to Albany to attend Albany Business College.
