DEWANDELAER: Does anyone have info on this unusual surname? My great grandfather, John Adams DeWandelaer, was born in the early 1830's in Palatine (Stone Arabia.) His father was Gansevoort DeWandelaer (b. 1797? in Palatine or Tribes Hill.) And his mother was Delia GETMAN (b 5 July 1807). Gansevoort and Delia were married 28 Feb 1826. I believe Delia's parents were John Adam GETTMAN and Maria ___. John Adams DeWandelaer had one brother, James Gansevoort DeWandelaer, (b. 11 Nov 1835 in Palatine, d. 7 Dec 1901, m. Anna LAWYER?) and one sister, Georgiana P. DeWandelaer (b. 1837, d. 15 Oct 1911 in Palatine). John Adams DeWandelaer first married Nancy Catherine COPPERNOLL (b. 8 Nov 1838). I believe John A. and Nancy C. DeWandelaer had the following children:
I am trying to verify all of this but need help! Will gladly share what info I have. Tamara Wilkinson (firstname.lastname@example.org)

Interested in finding descendants for children of Jacob VAN ALLEN, baptised at Stone Arabia Dutch Reformed Church on 30 August 1771, Montgomery County (son of Peter Van Allen and Maria Ellwood) and his wife, Catherine ZIMMERMAN b. ca 1780. Children of Jacob and Catherine were:
Most of these families were living in Herkimer County, NY. Also interested in the ancestry of spouses of Jacob's children. According to an article on p. 813 of History of the Mohawk Valley - Gateway to the West, John F. Van Allen listed above was married to Katie COVEL rather than GARDINER. Can anyone confirm which of these names was correct? Anyone having information on any of the above mentioned families, please contact me at my e-mail address.

Would like to correspond with anyone having information/descendancy from Benjamin VAN ALLEN, born 24 July 1795 in Montgomery county, and son of Richard Van Allen and Nancy Zimmerman. Benjamin was married to Mary ZIMMERMAN. He had the following children: Nancy, who married James BAXTER (where?), Eliza, who married Charlie BROWN (place?), Allen, Henry, Charles, Catherine, Mary, Thomas, and Walter. Other children may have been married, but I don't have information on them yet. I found Charles Van Allen listed in the International Genealogical Index as marrying a Barbara Ann KELLER on 4 December 1856 in Dodge county, MN, but the 1870 census for Dodge county lists him with Barbara and first child Mary C. as having been natives of NY? If anyone can shed any light regarding the spouses for Benjamin's children or information on descendancy of these families, please contact me.

I am looking for information on the MOORE family, or MOREY family that lived on West St, in Newport, in the large stone house (where I currently live). I need to get an idea of when the house was built and who has owned it before.
(Note: Dear Phastas: drive over to the Newport Historical Center on downtown Main Street. Ask Muriel and Marge to show you early atlas maps of the town and mention you heard about them from me. Bring a snapshot of the house and they may be able to tell you something off the tops of their heads or know someone who can. After you see who lived in your house for some time periods, ask them which govt. agency should have the earlier original deeds to the property. You can work your way back from your own ownership with the owners' names you glean from your map research at NHC. NHC is open M, W, and F afternoons after 1:00 pm. Courthouses will also have weekday hours. For credibility and to cut down on research time, take along a copy of your own deed, which should have notes from the surveyors.)

Researching the DAVOE/ DEVOE family of Warren, Herkimer County, NY and Springfield, Otsego County, NY. Anthony Davoe, a soldier of the Revolution, settled in Warren in the early to mid 1790s from Schtagticoke, near Albany. He died in Springfield in 1844. Two children married OSTERHOUT family members, and others married BROWN, SPRINGER and PAINE family members. The last Devoes in the area left in the early 1890s (my g-gf was killed in a house fire in Jordanville in 1893) or died in the 1890-1910 era. Other families include WALLIS, JEWELL and HELMER and I would like to correspond with anyone researching these families. Thank you!

Peter FAKE b. Apr. 19, 1800, d. Dec. 6, 1876 Clinton, NY; b.p. unknown but probably Schoharie, NY. Married Nov. 24, 1825 to Margaret (Maggie) PRENTICE b. 1807. 8 children, 3 sons, 5 daughters. Looking for birthplace and parent information. There are ca.1800 Schoharie residents by the name of FECK who appear in later census as Fake, among them Nicholas Fake mentioned in the will of Peter VROMAN (under the Fake spelling). I suspect that they are descendants of the FEECK family of Schoharie Palatines, but have no proof. (Note: Schoharie Co. was once part of Montgomery County.)

I would like to learn more about Andrew McCOMBS, who died in the Revolutionary war. His grandson, Andrew McCombs, was born in Herkimer in 1791. At least that's what my computerized records say. Earlier family records (before computers) said he was born in German Flatts. I just checked some old church records last week and didn't find him. I believe that the earlier Andrew McCombs came to America from Scotland, but I don't know when. That would probably have been before 1765. Is anyone else researching the McCombs surname?

At the Palatine Lutheran Trinity Church of Stone Arabia (Steinrabi) quite a few escaped Hessian soldiers were married between Dec.1778 and 1780. The Lutheran Minister performing the marriage ceremonies was an escaped Hessian soldier himself, by the name of Carl Friedrich Salomo FRIDERICI. His last entry in the church records was on May 4, 1780, when another Minister took over. Trying to learn what became of Friderici, and whether he remained in Stone Arabia. Replies to John H. Merz.

I am looking for information on Charles BERGIN and his son Keyran Bergin. In the 1840 census they are in the twp. of Florida, Montgomery Co., New York. In the 1850 census Keyran Bergin has married Elizabeth NEWMAN and they are living in Florida, NY with their 4 children. This couple were both from Ireland and would have married in the local Catholic Church.

I am seeking information concerning the family of John SHOLTS, a teacher, and Hanna (HANAN) Sholts, his wife, who had 10 children, is known to have lived in New York, Town of Wayne/Barrington, Steuben/Yates County (ca.1810-1830s), before a number of both the Sholts and Hanan families migrated to the vicinity of Erie, PA., and then eventually to Wisconsin ca. 1846. The 1790 federal census suggests that members of the Sholts family may have lived in the Town of Palatine, Montgomery Co., N.Y., at an earlier period. The conclusion is based on phonetic spelling of the family surname as it appears in in the 1790 census (Sholts=Shoults=Shoultz), as well as the repetition of similar given names appearing both in that census and in subsequent generations (John and Henry). The census suggests that the earlier home of the Hanan family was Saratoga Co., N.Y.

I'm having quite a time finding this gentleman John H. STEPHENS. He was my father's father and before I ever got any info on him my father passed away. I guess I waited too late in life to do this genealogy thing. I do know that in the early 1900's he was in the town of Herkimer, Herkimer County, New York because he showed up on three marriage records there. His children were married there in that locale. One was in 1913, one in 1916 and one in1919. The children's names were Harry, Grace and Ionia Stephens on the records. He showed as the father on each record. He had lived in Little Falls, Herkimer and the vicinity since 1880. His wife Lola BURNETT died in Herkimer Hospital in 1903. If someone has an 1900, 1910 or 1920 census cd they might be able to tell me something about him and his father and mother. Here's hoping someone can help me. Please contact me by e- mail.
