The People of the State of New York, by the grace of God free and independent.
To all to whom these presents shall come; or may concern, Send Greeting. Know ye
that at Johnstown in the county of Montgomery before James Lansing Esquire,
Surrogate of our said county, the last will and testament of Christopher Ottman
deceased (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed) was proved, and is now approved and
allowed of by us; and the said deceased having, whilst he lived and at the time
of his death, goods chattels or credits within this State, by means whereof the
proving and registering the said will, and the granting administration of all and
singular the said goods, chattels and credits; and also the auditing, allowing
and final discharging the account thereof doth belong unto u s: the
administration of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said
deceased and any way concerning his will is granted unto Henry Ottman, Henry I.
Antis and John S. Clement, the executors of the said will named; - they being
first duly sworn well and faithfully to administer the same, and to make and
exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said goods chattels
and credits, and also to render a just and true account thereof when thereunto
required. In testimony whereof we have caused the Seal of Office of our said
Surrogate to be hereunto affixed. Witness James Lansing Esquire Surrogate of the
said County at Johnstown the fifth day of September in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and twenty, and of our independence the forty fifth.

In the name of God amen, I Christopher Otman of the town of Canajoharie, County
of Montgomery and State of New York, being in perfect sound mind memory and
understanding, blessed be God for the same, so make publish and declare this my
last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I give my
soul to God who gave it me, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in
a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my friend and at the charge
and expence (sic) of my son Henry and my son Phillip and my daughter Eva, and
with regard to such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with
in this life, I give and dispose in manner and form following (to wit)
I give and
bequeath unto my son Henry all that farm he now lives on with all the buildings
on said farm: and further I give and bequeath unto my son Henry three horses and
all the farming utentials (sic) which I have let him have heretofore: and
further, I give and bequeath to my son Henry the equal one half of my wearing
apparel, and the equal one half of my share in the turnpike road, and one seat in
the church at Currystown, and an equal share in the burying ground: and further,
it is my will and desire that my son Henry shall pay my daughter Elizabeth the
sum of fifteen dollars to be paid one year after my deceas (sic): and further it
is my will and desire that my son Henry shall pay unto my daughter Eva two
hundred dollars, to be paid in three yearly equal payments; the first payment to
become due one year after my death, at which time the interest shall first begin
for all the money or moneys that is due or shall become due.
Item, I give and
bequeath unto my son Phillip all that certain farm he now lives on, with all the
buildings belonging to the same. Further, I give and bequeath unto my son
Phillip three horses and all the farming utentials (sic) which I have let him
have heretofore: and further, I give and bequeath unto my son Phillip the equal
one half of my wearing appearel (sic), and the equal one half of my share in the
turnpike road, and one seat in the church at Currystown, and an equal share in
the burying ground: and further, it is my will and desire that my son Phillip
shall pay unto my daughter Elizabeth the sum of five dollars to be paid one year
after my decease: and further, it is my will and desire that my son Phillip shall
pay unto my daughter Eva one hundred dollars, to be paid in three yearly equal
payments; the first payment to become due one year after my deceas (sic), at
which time the interest shall first begin for all the money or moneys that is due
or shall become due.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Eva two cows and
one heiffer (sic) besides the cow she now owns and six sheep: and further I give
and bequeath unto my daughter Eva all my household furniture, beds and beding
(sic), and two large kettles and pots & and my loom with the tacklen (?, sic),
and my spinning wheal (sic) and giant wheal (sic), also one seat in the church at
Currystown, and also a shear (sic) in the burying ground, and also all the money
and obligations I have or should have after my deceas (sic). I further give and
bequeath unto my daughter Eva three hundred dollars to be paid by my two sons
Henry and Phillip as above mentioned.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter
Elizabeth twenty dollars to be paid by my sons Henry and Phillip as above
mentioned.
Item, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Henry Ottman, Henry
Antis and John S. Clement to be my executors of this my last will and testament
to have every thing performed according to my express meaning and intent. Signed
Sealed published & declared by the said Christopher Ottman as his last will and
testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each
other have hereunto subscribed our names this twenty first day of January in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty. Christopher X Ottman LS

Be it remembered
that on the fifth day of September in the year of our lord one thousand eight
hundred and twenty personally appeared before me James Lansing, Surrogate of the
County of Montgomery, John Malich and Henry I. Antis who, being duly sworn,
severally depose and say that they saw Christopher Ottman sign and seal and heard
him publish and declare the foregoing instrument as and for his last will and
testament, that the said Christopher Ottman was, at the time thereof, of sound
and disposing mind memory and understanding; that these deponents respectively
subscribed their names thereto, as witnesses to the execution thereof, in the
presence of the said Christopher Ottman, the testator; and that they, at the same
time, saw John Alpaugh subscribe his name thereto as a witness to the execution
thereof, also in the said testator's presence. James Lansing
The preceding are copies of the last will and testament of Christopher Ottman
deceased, of the certificate of the proof thereof, and of the letters
testamentary thereon. Registered the fifth day of September 1820.

Be it also remembered that on the said fifth day of September last mentioned
personally appeared before me the said Surrogate Henry Ottman, Henry I. Antis and
John S. Clement, executors in the last will and testament of the said Christopher
Ottman deceased named, and were duly sworn as executors.

NOTES:
CHRISTIAN (Christopher) OTTMAN - Christian, or Christopher as he was also called,
was the son of Christyan Ottman and Christina Schaffer, the daughter of
Johann Heinrich Schaffer and Anna Maria Margaretha. Johann Schaffer,
his brother Heinrich, and mother, Maria Elisabetha Schaffer, were among the
1710 German Palatine immigrants. Christian/Christopher was born in Schoharie County, NY.
Christian and Christina's son, Henry Christian Ottman, married Katherine Alpaugh, my ancestors.
I would enjoy hearing from other descendants.
