NOTES:
HENDRICK VUNCK - was born 1757, of Freehold Township, Monmouth County, NJ. He married
Chestinah Hagaman born 1760, also of Freehold, but I do not know who her parents were.
Hendrick and Chestinah removed to Charleston, Montgomery Co, NY about 1793. They were
both buried in Charleston, Montgomery County, near the old Bell Cemetery, found on
the Montgomery County GenWeb site. Hendrick served as private and corporal in the
1st New Jersey Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He served on a campaign to
the St. Lawrence. He was captured near Sandy Hook, NJ and held on a British
prisoner-of-war ship anchored in New York City, later serving in his home-town
militia till the end of the War (per Rev. War pension record). His daughter,
Jane Vunck b 1796, married James Dingman b 1798; their daughter Christina married
Jacob Henry Kniskern, my ancestors. I would be interested in learning who Chestinah
Hagaman's parents were, and would enjoy hearing from other descendants.
"I was in touch with another Vunck descendant of said Hendrick and
Chestinah - actually my correspondent and I helped each other with what
we each had, and traded our data to help each other to complete our lines
as much as possible; that's what this should all be about. Anyway, her
ancestor is a brother of my Jane Vunck; he married the sister of James
Dingman who was my Jane's husband - it was just too marvelous a find!
We long to find Chestinah's Hagaman line and am also hoping by
placing this will out there someone just might know! We have Hendrick's
connection to the original "Vonck" family that I found through a researcher in
Canada. The Dutch
Vonck is possibly where most folks get lost as I suspected that was
changed to the Vunck spelling and was correct in that assumption."
