new 1/14/06  The following large group of marital notices from the Herkimer Democrat was contributed by Asst. Coordinator Lisa Slaski. "The following marital notices were found in the Herkimer Democrat (Herkimer, NY) on pages that I copied for other purposes. This newspaper is held by the Herkimer County Historical Society and can be viewed onsite (on microfilm). From the Herkimer Democrat, 11 Jun 1902:

Matrimonial

A correspondent writing from Canajoharie, under the date of June 4th says: -
Delightful indeed was the wedding solemnized this evening at the pleasant home of Mrs. Elizabeth Spraker at Sprakers, when her only daughter, Miss Mabel, was united in holy wedlock to Rev. E. J. Meeker of Mohawk. At eight o'clock the bride and groom presented themselves before Rev. J. A. Thompson and stood beneath a corner decoration of flowers and vines, and amid such beautiful surroundings, were joined together in sacred covenant and pronounced man and wife. The service was a very impressive one, the bride being given away by her only brother, Wallace J. Spraker of Buffalo, while music was furnished by a bridal chorus composed of Miss Ballou of Utica, Miss Monroe of Amsterdam, and Charles Ehle of Canajoharie. The bride was attended by Miss Edith Sawyer of Appleton, N.Y., as maid of honor and Drew Wyckoff Hageman of New York city, who was a classmate of Rev. Mr. Meeker at Rutgers College, was best man. The bride was attired in a gown of white sappho silk. The service was followed by the usual season of congratulations, after which the one hundred or more guests were served with delicious refreshments. The gifts which were costly and numerous, were a handsome collection of cut glass, silverware, etc. The bride is one of the village's foremost and accomplished young society ladies, and is favorably known throughout the Mohawk Valley, where she enjoys a well deserved reputation as a reader. After a short wedding tour to Asbury Park, Rev. Mr. Meeker and wife will reside at Mohawk, where the groom is the popular pastor of the Reformed Church, and will commence their newly wedded life with the sincere good wishes of a host of friends.
