ABRAMS. In Burtonsville on 27 Oct 1854 of heart disease, Catharine Cordelia Abrams, age 11 years and 9 months. Funeral by Rev. F.B. P[eck]. (Christian Ambassador, Auburn, 17 Feb 1855)
ALLEN. In Bradford, Connecticut on 29 Dec 1861, Joel Allen, age 81 years and 6 months. A native of Connecticut; lived in Vermont briefly, then in Fort Plain, NY. About 15 years before his death he returned to Connecticut to live with a son. Interment in Fort Plain, where a daughter purchased a lot in the cemetery and had her mother's remains removed there to be re-buried beside those of her father. BELDING. In Port Jackson, town of Florida on 8 Jan, Rev. Henry Belding, age 62 years and 10 months. A [Universalist] minister for many years; was first settled in Gloucester, Massachusetts; later in Braman's Corners, Clarksville and Fort Plain NY. Had left the ministry about 20 years previously on account of physical disability. Funeral in the Dutch Reformed Church at Port Jackson by Rev. J. N. P. [Universalist], assisted by Rev. COOK. In Fords Bush on 24 May, Samuel Cook, age 76. One of the first settlers of Minden and had lived there half a century. Survived by his wife and a large family. COSBY. In Florida on 25 Jun, John E. Cosby, age 28 years and 9 months. "This young man, who was of steady and most exemplary habits, committed suicide, by hanging himself with his handkerchief, in his bedroom. The cause for his committing the act of self-destruction is unknown." Funeral by F. B. Peck; interment according to Odd Fellows rites. (Christian Ambassador, Auburn, 14 Jul 1855)
COUNTRYMAN. At Fort Fisher on 15 Jan, Jadua Countryman, age 24. Only son of Moses Countryman of St. Johnsville, NY. Enlisted in Co. B, 115th Reg. in Aug 1862. Taken prisoner at Harper's Ferrry in Sep and exchanged in Nov. Killed when Fort Fisher was blown up; his body was never recovered. (Christian Ambassador, New York, 13 May 1865)
DAVIS. In Florida on 28 Jan, Ezra Davis, age 21 years and 8 months. Eldest son of Elias C. and Juliann Davis. "He was in the employ of Mr. Cornelius Van Horn, and as they were watering their horses, Mr. Davis coming up behind one of them, was kicked, the sharp cork of the horse's shoe penetrating the skull, afflicting a most shocking wound. He lingered some five days in great pain, and but a few moments of the time sensible of his situation." Also survived by his brothers. Funeral by Rev. F. B. Peck. DAVIS. In Canajoharie on 22 Sep 1849, Miss Minerva Davis, age 24. "The friends of our cause in this place... could but ill afford to lose such a member out of their little circle, as was Sister Davis." (Evangelical Magazine & Gospel Advocate, New York, 5 Oct 1849)

DEVENDORF. Near Fort Plain on 2 Feb, Henry S. Devendorf, age 77. A lifelong Universalist. Funeral 4th by Rev. Chas. F. Lee of Utica; interment at "his old home in the far West" [possibly Delevan, Wisconsin where his wife Elizabeth had died on 20 May 1860]. (Christian Leader, Utica, 11 Apr 1874)
DEVOE. In Caughnawaga [Fonda] on 21 Apr, Deborah DeVoe, age 47. Wife of Wm. H. DeVoe. A member of the Dutch Reformed church. In 1836 moved to Sheridan, Chautauqua Co.; settled in the West in 1854. A long time Universalist. Survived by his wife and 4 or 5 sons. Interment in Mt. Carroll Cem. Her first husband, Hamilton DeVoe, died soon after their marriage, then their infant child died. Only a few months after her second marriage she contracted consumption. LIGHTHALL. In Ford's Bush on 8 Mar of dropsy, Elizabeth Lighthall, age 59 years and 13 days. Married to George Lighthall for 42 years. Mother of thirteen, 11 of whom were surviving, and grandmother of 16. "The funeral was rendered more affective than usual by four mutes (daughters), ... whose lively, poignant sorrow none could see and not feel." Funeral 10th in the Universalist church by Rev. A. B. G. REESE. In Glen on 28 Oct 1826, Polly Reese, age about 20, of West Mendon, Monroe Co. Sister of Rev. W[illiam] I. Reese. (Gospel Advocate, Buffalo, 6 Jan 1827)
REESE. In Buffalo on 6 Sep of cholera, Rev. William I. Reese, age 34. Pastor of the Universal Restorationist Society; had lived in Buffalo for only 4 months, since the spring of 1834. Had been caring for the sick during an epidemic when he was struck down. Born in Charlestown, Montgomery Co., NY on 25 Dec 1799. Converted to Universalism in 1823 and received a Letter of Fellowship from the (then) Western Association of Universalists in 1824. Lived in Portland, Maine for two years, then in Bloomfield, Ontario Co. Survived by his 2nd wife and one child from each marriage [William Satterlee Reese and Charles B. Reese, respectively]. Funeral 7th by Rev. Kneeland Townsend, who wrote the obit on 8 Sep in Buffalo. (Herald of Truth, Geneva, 13 Sep 1834 and Evangelical Magazine & Gospel Advocate, Utica, 20 Sep 1834). SIMMONS. In Root on 5 Nov, John Simmons, age 37, of Argusville [Schoharie Co.]. "Mr. S. started with his wife from his residence in Argusville, in a wagon drawn by a powerful and spirited horse, about 9 o'clock in the morning, to go to the house of Mr. Scott, the father-in-law, who had been dead about two hours, when within a hundred rods of the house, the horse took fright from a hog, and springing up suddenly from the road, threw Mr. Simmons from the carriage. One of his legs became entangled in the reins and he was dragged upon the ground, and dashed against the carriage and kicked by the horse, while it ran at full speed for about twenty rods; and the horse was stopped by the body of Mr. S. coming in contact with a post standing in the ground by the road side. THORNTON. In Fort Plain on 4 Jul, Ezekiel Thornton, age 28. Formerly of Cooperstown, Otsego Co. Died of injuries suffered in a fall from the Universalist church building under construction. Was the principal workman [supervisor] on that construction project and a member of the firm of Norton and Dell, contractors. A charter member of the Universalist Society in Cooperstown. His wife Maria was a member of the Methodist Episcopal order. They were married 6 years. Also survived by a son William, age 5, and a daughter age 17 months. Funeral by Rev. He was a dry goods merchant at Ford's Bush and a dealer in books, drugs and medicines in Little Falls. Funeral in the Universalist church at Racine by Rev. A. C. Barray. ZOLLER. In Ford's Bush on 26 Nov, Elizabeth Zoller, age 13 years and 2 days. Funeral ‘Saturday" by Rev. G. W. S. [Geo. W. Skinner], assisted by Rev. Hemperly, Lutheran. Rev. Skinner, who wrote the obit, mentioned an amputation "the probabilities of which were adverse to a successful result, and under which she died." (Christian Ambassador, Auburn, 13 Dec 1856)

ZOLLER. In Minden on 16 Mar, John Zoller, age 72. "He was an independent, outspoken, plain-hearted man. He despised hypocrisy and deceits, and although some might have thought little of his sternness of character, more admitted his frankness and dignity of life." Survived by his wife and family.
