I am looking for descendants, siblings and the names of Smith BURTCH's parent's, and his wife, Mary ELIGH. They were listed in the 1810 census for Montgomery County, and in the 1820 census of Rossee, St. Lawrence County. In the late 1700s Dutchess County was full of Burtch's. Mary Eligh was born somewhere in the Mohawk Valley Region of New York State.
Smith's children that I have listed were: Polly, died young; Betsy, died young; Horace, I know nothing about; Jacob, I know nothing about; Lewis, b. 1807 d. 1872; Charles, b. 1810 d. 1871; Alfred b.1820 d.1870; and William b.1823 d.1872.
I am also trying to get some information on my great-grandfather, Elijah Burtch. He was born somewhere in the U.S., came to Canada and was married on Dec. 10, 1861. He went to fight in the Civil War for the States. He died in the States and is buried there. I would like to know how I can get his service records, and find out how he died and where he is buried. Elijah was the son of Lewis Burtch and Rachel (Unknown), and the grandson of Smith Burtch. If there are any relatives out there of these Burtch's, I would really like to hear from you. Thanks. Jewel (Burtch) Irwin.
