Seeking any information on HAFT. I have information from the 1850 US Census for the Town of Palatine, Montgomery County, NY which lists Francis Haft, Jacob Haft, Michael Haft, and their families.

David Bishop Tue 15 Jul 97
A long-postponed family reunion last year uncovered a trail of names in my family that led to Montgomery County. My 5th great-grandfather is reported from the baptismal records of the Dutch Reformed Church, Stone Arabia, Town of Palatine, to be John HAHN/ HAWN, who married Katy RICE at a date unknown. Their descendents are as follows:

I am interested in locating the Dutch Reformed Church at Stone Arabia. I understand that the Stone Arabia Lutheran Church was built in 1792 and was located on NYS 10 about 3 miles north of Palatine Bridge. I wonder whether the Dutch Reformed Church was nearby. I would like to find out whether any Hawns owned land in the area. I also am interested in Katy RICE, a line that no one in my family knows anything about. I would like to trace how John Hahn (Hawn) and Katy Rice came to the Mohawk Valley, and ultimately how their ancestors came to America.

In scanning your website I found reference to a Conrad HAWN, originally from the town of Herkimer, killed in the Battle of Oriskany in 1777. His name was in the list of soldiers in the Battle of Oriskany file. Since there are so few records of "Hawns", I am curious as to whether Conrad Hawn could be the father or uncle of John Hahn (Hawn). Do you know anyone who has more information on the soldiers in that conflict?

Your page on famous pioneer women also profiles a prominent "Rice". Is there any way to determine whether this person is related to the Katy Rice that married John Hawn and attended the Dutch Reformed Church? Thanks again for your e-mail and your help. I am new to the area of geneology, and I find it facinating.

2. Solomon Hakes, born 1779

6. Nathan H Hakes, born 1791 married Margaret WHITBECK
7. Nancy Hakes, born 1791 (twin to Nathan) married Cyrus or James CARTWRIGHT
8. Matilda Hakes, born 1793 married a BUEL

If any of these names appear familiar to any of the readers there in Cyberspace, would you please contact me via my e-mail address? Other surnames affiliated with this line are WHEELER, MONTGOMERY, DAILEY, DOWNING, BABCOCK, SPALDING, ODEL, and BILLINGS.

Nathan H. Hakes was my ancestor. I am also descended from Ephraim Joseph Wheeler, whose father was Thomas Wheeler and his wife Mary (MUNROE) Wheeler. These two lines of the HAKES and WHEELER families are interconnected. Thanks for your time.

Three generations of HAMILTONs lived in Montgomery County and the focus of my research is the Town of Charlestown.

Firstly, John Hamilton with his wife Mercy CORNISH who emigrated from Conn. They had 8 children: Esther who married Samuel TYLER, Silas who married Achsah BARNES, William who married Hannah Barnes, John (my direct ancestor; 1768-1841) who married Dolly CAMPBELL of Conn (1772-1858), David who married Sally SLOAN, Solomon who married Mercy SPRING and then Sally HERRICK, Lucy who married Frederick HARRIS (parents of Hamilton & Ira who were in politics) and Mercy who married Luther Barnes.

Secondly, John and "Dolly" Hamilton's family: Nancy, Hannah, Dorothy (1799-1891) who married a Philip SCHUYLER and remarried a David SHIBLEY, John who married a Lydia ALLEN, Anna (1802-1880) who married a Benjamin BURCH, William (1805-1901)who married a Thankful Burch and remarried a Phebe BASSET, Henry (my ggg-grandfather; 1807-1895) who married Emeline SHEPARD (had 5 children; 1807-1838) and remarried a Mary Ann KELLER, Samuel who married a Elida VASBURGH and Harvey who married an Electa BURNAP.

Thirdly, Henry and Emeline Hamilton's family: Norman (my great-great grandfather), Horace, Mercy (1834-1928) who married a William GARLOCK, Minerva, Pamelia who married a Joshua SMITH, Nancy who married Sanford BALLOU, Charles who married Matilda LEWIS, Dorotha (1844-1936) who married a Samuel MOYER, John who married an Alice BEAMAN, Solomon who married an Emonette (1848-1912)WALKER, Emily?/Emma who married a Jacob CARR (1850-1913), George, Mary who married a Herbert ELWELL and remarried a Wilbur SIMMONS, Menzo who married a Laura WEBB. Norman, Horace, Pamelia, Charles and John emigrated to Iowa. Nancy and Menzo emigrated to California.

No collection of these Hamilton descendants is known to exist. I am tracing all lines and have more dates on people listed above. I believe some Schuylers and Garlocks remain in this area. I am interested in Barnes history (descendant of Comfort Barnes of MA) as three Barnes married three Hamilton's and I have been unable to trace these lines. Many of the Hamilton relatives are buried in the Charleston Four Corners cemetery. One Elvira Hamilton (1844-1900) married a Hiram MONTANYE (1838-1917). They are buried in Esperance. Am interested in expanding on this line also. HelenH58@AOL.com

It is my belief that his father is William Harvey (there in 1820, gone in 1825). I am looking for any early marriages which might be relevant and/or if these people are listed in any early land or tax records. Thank you.

Looking for ancestors of Willard Carpenter HILLEGAS (1905-1987), lifelong resident of Herkimer Co. and named for three families. My gg-grandfather, Peter Hillegas was m. @1851. Peter married 10 Sept 1850, in St.Johnsville, NY, Mary BAUDER. I can't get any further back from him, although I've found the Hillegas name on the census list of 1790 and the same names appear on the War lists.

Looking for information on John P. HESS (3/29/1826-7/24/1903) who was married to Eleanor CURTIS (8/25/1824-8/7/1903). They were married 2/6/1852 and both died in 1903 in in the Town of Hounsfield, Jefferson Co. I know they bought the house, that is still in the family, at some time in the 1860s. John P. Hess's parents are listed on his death record as Peter Hess and Cordelia and both are listed as origins unknown. I have been through the cemetery records for all of the cemeteries in Jefferson Co. that was done in 1850. There is not one Hess listed in any of them. Would like to find brothers, sisters of John P. and information on his father and mother. I know that the original John Hess arrived in America on 6/13/1710 and was told (not confirmed) that he settled in Schoharie Co. - traveling with a Nicholas Hess. Don't know whether it was a father, brother, uncle or what, but found that through the computer at a site called On Line Immigrant Ancestor Register Index.
